Today it is my pleasure to bring you my review of Willow’s Wedding Vow’s by Debbie Viggiano as part of this excellent blog tour.

Wedding vows have never been this personal…

Willow has been living with marriage-shy Charlie for more years than she cares to remember and is old-fashioned enough to want a wedding band and a loads-of-sex honeymoon before stretchmarks and nipple shields.

So when the once-wary Charlie surprisingly goes down on one knee, Willow doesn’t question why her boyfriend is suddenly so keen to rush her into saying “I do”.

The first clue comes as Willow is zipped into her Cinderella dress, the second as she bobs into the wedding car, and the third as the Roller swings towards its fairy-tale destination… leaving a shell-shocked Willow desperately trying to figure out what to do next.

A bride can do anything she wants on her wedding day, but nobody expected her to do this…

Willow and Charlie have been together forever (well a decade anyway!), and if ever Willow brings up the topic of marriage Charlie runs a mile.  Despite owning a home together, he appears to be a commitment-phobe.  Willow adores him though, and she convinces herself that she is happy as they are, that what they have will be enough for her until he suddenly proposes!

Charlie loves Willow – he thinks.  She does everything for him at home, she’s attractive, but he just can’t bring himself to marry her.  His ‘friend’ Kev starts to put pressure on him and suddenly he finds himself getting very hot under the collar.  Maybe he has got a good thing with Willow?

Ben is Charlie’s best friend.  But he is really struggling to like him.  Ben thinks Willow is amazing, he just cannot understand why Charlie won’t commit to her.  Now Ben has found someone her can really see a future with, he finds himself struggling more and more about being involved in Charlie and Willow’s situation.

Emma is Willow’s best friend, but she seems to be spending a lot of time feeling guilty.  She has met someone who seems intent on breaking her heart, and she just cannot bring herself to tell Willow the truth about Charlie.

Willow is a great character, even if she is a little naïve.  She loves her boyfriend Charlie, almost unconditionally.  She is able to see past his faults, although it becomes increasingly apparent that love really might be blind.  She trusts him implicitly, and when he proposes to her instead of hearing warning bells all she can hear is wedding bells! She is about to get her happy ever after!  I loved Willow, but there were times that I struggled with her naivity.  She took everything that Charlie said at face value – the thought that he could lie to her doesn’t even cross her mind.

I have to say though, I think Charlie may have been my favourite character.  He’s a dog that’s for sure, but I loved watching him squirm as he continually finds himself in awkward situations of his own making.  It was more than a little satisfying watching him sweat!  Don’t get me wrong, how he treats Willow is unforgivable but I thoroughly enjoyed following him dealing with the consequences of his own actions.

Debbie Viggiano has written a great, easy-read novel with some excellent twists.  Whilst I did guess who ‘Kev’ was before the big reveal, she throws in some great curveballs to keep you guessing.  Willow certainly grows as a person throughout the novel, realising her self-worth and I always enjoy a novel that has good character development.  This is an all round great novel, perfect for reading during these strange times.
