*BLOG TOUR* Autumn Leaves at Mill Grange by Jenny Kane

It is my pleasure to kick off the fabulous blog tour for Autumn Leaves at Mill Grange by Jenny Kane. Happy Publication Day Jenny!

At Mill Grange, the work – and the fun – never stops! As autumn brings coolness and colour, change is in the air for all at the manor…

Sam Philips’ time in the forces changed him forever. Supported by his friends, Sam is keen to help make beautiful Mill Grange a safe retreat for injured army personnel… but his crippling claustrophobia means Sam is living in a tent on the grounds! Enlisting the help of charming village stalwarts Bert and Mabel Hastings, Tina Martins is determined to find a way to help him conquer his fears. But why does she feel like he is keeping a secret?

After discovering evidence of a Roman fortlet on the manor’s grounds, Thea Thomas is thrilled at the chance to return to her archaeological roots and lead the excavation. She spent the summer with handsome celebrity archaeologist Shaun Cowlson – but now he’s off filming his Landscape Treasures show in Cornwall, and Thea can’t help but miss his company. Especially as someone else is vying for his attention…

Welcome back to Mill Grange and the beautiful village of Upwich, full of larger-than-life characters you can’t help but adore.

Having already read Midsummer Dreams at Mill Grange, I was very excited to get my hands on the next book in the series, Autumn Leaves at Mill Grange. I really enjoy it when an author decides to create a series – it gives the reader more time with characters (such as Mabel and Bert!) but it also offers the opportunity to get to know other characters in a way we perhaps hadn’t in previous novels.

Autumn Leaves at Mill Grange focuses on the set up of a retreat for injured army veterans, following Sam Phillips purchase of Mill Grange. Sam himself suffers from crippling claustrophobia, and as a result he has not yet been able to cross the threshold of his new project. His girlfriend Tina is keen to help him overcome his fears and is willing to do whatever it takes to help him.

Thea has remained at Mill Grange after the change in ownership to take over as Manager. However with the discovery of a Roman fortlet within the grounds, she is keen to utilise her archaeological skills to uncover the treasures beneath the soil – her only disappointment is that Shaun, her handsome new celebrity boyfriend has had to leave to film for his show Landscape Treasures in Cornwall.

This is such a lovely novel, and a perfect sequel to Midsummer Dreams at Mill Grange. I love the setting of Mill Grange, and it was such a treat to return there to learn more about these characters. Sam is a fascinating character and whilst his situation is difficult, watching him work to overcome his problems is inspiring, particularly while he works hard to help others in similar situations. The change in Tina was also lovely to follow, as she finds her way in a new relationship, particularly one which comes with issues.

I am more than happy to recommend this novel, but it would be a shame to read just Autumn Leaves at Mill Grange, so grab yourself a copy of Midsummer Dreams at Mill Grange too!

Rating: 4 out of 5.

*BLOG TOUR* Midsummer Dreams at Mill Grange by Jenny Kane

Today it is my pleasure to help kick off the blog tour for Jenny Kane’s Midsummer Dreams at Mill Grange.

Thea Thomas needs to get away from her old life… and the interfering ex who won’t leave her alone. When she lands a job heading up the restoration of Mill Grange, a stunning Victorian manor, it feels like the perfect opportunity to start afresh.

What Thea didn’t anticipate was how hostile the volunteer team, led by the formidable Mable Hastings, would be about accepting new leadership. And with the deadline looming before the grand opening, Thea is in desperate need of more volunteers.

A broadcast appeal on the local news attracts the interest of arrogant but undeniably attractive celebrity historian Shaun Cowlson, who wants to make a TV programme about the restoration. It’s hard enough adding one more big personality to the mix – but then her ex turns up as one of the volunteers! What seemed like a dream come true is fast becoming a total disaster! Can Thea find a way to save the manor?

Thea Thomas is in need of a new challenge and a new setting. Her current job, whilst enjoyable, has become a little stale. She also seems to have the unwanted attentions of her ex-boyfriend who just cannot understand that they’ve broken up. When the opportunity presents itself for her to move out of Bath to head up a major restoration project at Mill Grange, Thea jumps at the chance.

With a tight deadline and a difficult group of volunteers led by Mable Hastings, Thea finds herself in need of some more help! Forced to broadcast a plea for help on the local news, Thea finds herself in the company of Shaun Cowlson, celebrity historian as well as John, the ex-boyfriend that she has been trying to get away from!

Whilst I did find Thea to be too mild-mannered (and regularly walked over by other stronger characters), I did warm to her as the novel progressed. What really drew me to this novel though was Mill Grange and its beautiful Exmoor setting. I am a big fan of buildings with historical significance – if the opportunity arose to volunteer at one to assist with restoration I’d be there like a shot! My views on a job like Thea’s are certainly romantic though, and the description of her role brought me down with a bump – following her as she dealt with some many difficult characters whilst trying to achieve something amazing within a tight deadline would be enough to put anyone off but she persevered. I can’t wait to revisit Mill Grange in Autumn Leaves at Mill Grange in September! I am more than happy to recommend this novel as a light, easy read – perfect for these warm summer evenings with a glass of something chilled!

Rating: 4 out of 5.
